1. Entry & The New EES System Biometric Check
Australian citizens enter Germany visa-free for up to 90 days, but border tech has evolved in 2026.
- No Stamping (EES): Since late 2025, manual passport stamps are gone. The **Entry/Exit System (EES)** now records your fingerprints and facial image digitally at the border.
- ETIAS (Late 2026): Starting Q4 2026, you MUST have an **ETIAS** authorization before boarding. It costs **€7** and is valid for 3 years.
- Passport: Must be an Australian biometric passport valid for at least **3 months** beyond your departure from Schengen.
- Border Checks: Internal land border checks (e.g., from Austria or France) have been extended until **15 March 2026**. Expect spot checks on trains.
2. Working Holiday Programme For Aussie Youth
Australia has a bilateral agreement allowing young citizens to live and work in Germany for 1 year.
