1. Mandatory UK ETA (Feb 25) No ETA, No Boarding
The UK's "No Permission, No Travel" policy is fully enforced from **25 February 2026** for German citizens.
- Who Needs It: Every German passport holder visiting for tourism, family, or business for up to 6 months.
- Application: Use the official **UK ETA app** (available on iOS/Android) or GOV.UK. Most decisions are returned in minutes.
- Cost & Validity: It costs **£16** (approx. €19) and is valid for **2 years** or until your passport expires.
- Lead Time: It is officially recommended to apply at least **3 working days** before travel.
2. Document Rules (ID Card vs Passport) Passport Only
Since October 2021, the rules for EU identity documents remain strict in 2026.
- Passport Mandate: German citizens MUST use a **valid biometric passport** to enter the UK. German national ID cards are no longer accepted for standard entry.

3. Dual Citizen Alert (German-UK) Passport Matching
Dual German-British citizens face specific boarding issues starting 25 February 2026.
- No ETA for Brits: Dual citizens cannot apply for an ETA using their German passport.
- Travel Rule: You MUST travel on your **valid British (or Irish) passport** or hold a **Certificate of Entitlement** in your German passport to avoid being denied boarding.

4. 2026 Customs & Duty-Free Strict
Post-Brexit customs rules are strictly enforced between the EU (Germany) and the UK.
- Alcohol & Tobacco: Duty-free limits include 200 cigarettes, 1 litre of spirits (>22% ABV), and 18 litres of still wine.
- Gifts & Personal Goods: You can bring in other goods worth up to **£390** (€465) duty-free. Exceeding this requires tax on the *total* value.
