1. Passport & Residency Rules Visa-Waiver
Entry rules differ significantly based on your nationality.
- Emirati Citizens: You do NOT need a visa for short-term visits (up to **90 days** in any 180-day period).
- UAE Residents (Expats): Most non-exempt nationalities (e.g., India, Pakistan, Philippines) MUST apply for a **Schengen Visa**.
- VFS Centers: Applications from UAE must be submitted through **VFS Global** in Dubai (Wafi Mall) or Abu Dhabi (WTC Mall).
- Passport: Must be valid for at least **3 months** after your planned departure and have 2 blank pages.
2. New €90 Schengen Fee Mandatory
As of February 2026, visa fees have stabilized at the new higher rate.
- Standard Fee: Adults and children aged 12+ must pay **€90** (approx. **AED 390**).
- Child Fee: Children aged 6–12 pay a reduced fee of **€45** (approx. **AED 200**).
- Service Charge: VFS Global charges an additional service fee of approx. **AED 147** per application.
- Refunds: Note that visa fees are **non-refundable**, even if your application is rejected.
3. Border Controls & The €63 Ticket Alert
Logistics for traveling within Germany have changed for 2026.
- Border Controls: Germany has extended land border checks until **15 March 2026**. Expect spot checks on road, rail, and bus routes entering from neighboring countries.
- €63 Deutschland-Ticket: The price for the nationwide local transport pass has increased to **€63 per month** from January 2026.
- Ticket Limits: The €63 ticket is NOT valid on high-speed trains (ICE, IC, EC); it is only for regional and local transport.
- EES Tech: Major airports like Frankfurt and Munich are now using **biometric kiosks** for the EU Entry/Exit System—ensure your digital footprint is accurate.
4. Work & Blue Card Thresholds New Salary Rules
Germany has updated its financial requirements for skilled migration.
- General Threshold: To qualify for an EU Blue Card in 2026, you must earn a minimum gross annual salary of **€50,700**.
- Shortage Occupations: For IT, medical, and STEM professions, the reduced threshold is **€45,934.20**.
- IT Specialists: Professionals with 3 years of experience in the last 7 years can now qualify for a Blue Card WITHOUT a university degree, provided they meet the salary threshold.
- National Visa (D): The processing fee for long-term work or study visas is **€75**.
