UK Freedom Guide 2026

UK is completing its shift to a purely digital immigration system.

• No More Stickers: For applications successfully decided on or after **25 February 2026**, you will likely not receive a physical visa sticker (vignette) in your passport.
• UKVI Account: You MUST create a **UKVI account** to access your eVisa. This digital record links directly to your passport.
• Boarding Checks: From Feb 25, airlines will perform automated checks to verify your digital permission before boarding.
• Identity: You will still need to attend a **VFS Global** appointment in Turkey (Ankara, Istanbul, etc.) to scan fingerprints and take a photo.

Turkish ordinary passport holders still require a full visa for every category except airside transit in specific cases.

• ETA Exclusion: The new £16 ETA is for visa-exempt nationalities only. Turkish citizens must still apply for the **Standard Visitor Visa**.
• Financial Proof: You must show 6 months of bank statements (suggested £1,200+ balance) and prove you intend to leave at the end of your visit.
• Cost: Short-term visitor visas (up to 6 months) cost **USD $180** (approx. £127) as of early 2026.
• Special Passports: Only **Diplomatic passport** holders are currently exempt from the visa requirement for short stays.

Rules for Turkish workers in the UK have become stricter following the closure of the ECAA (Ankara Agreement) route.

• English Level: Since **8 January 2026**, the English requirement for Skilled Worker visas has increased from B1 to **B2 level**.
• Salary Floor: The general salary threshold for new applicants is currently **£41,700** per year.
• Settlement wait: The government is consulting on increasing the wait for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) from 5 years to **10 years** for most work routes.
• Extension: If you already have a Turkish Worker visa, you can still apply to extend it within the UK.

UK Border Force enforces zero-tolerance on specific imports from outside the EU/EEA.

• Food Alert: Strictly NO meat, dairy, or fresh produce from Turkey. Confiscation leads to heavy fines.
• Currency: Cash or monetary instruments exceeding **£10,000** must be declared digitally before entry.
• TB Test: If staying longer than 6 months, Turkish citizens must provide a valid **Tuberculosis (TB) test certificate** from an approved clinic.
• Transit: Turkish citizens may transit through airside without a visa if they hold a valid visa/residence permit for the USA, Canada, or Schengen.
