1. e-Visa (Tourist & Business) Online Only

U.S. citizens are eligible for the India e-Visa, which must be applied for online at least 4 days before travel.

  • Application Window: You can apply up to **120 days** in advance for 2026.
  • Entry Points: Valid for entry through **51 designated gateways**, including 33 airports and 16 seaports.
  • Documents Required: A clear scan of your U.S. passport (bio page) and a recent square digital photograph with a white background.
  • 180-Day Rule: Regardless of the visa's validity, continuous stay for tourists is restricted to **180 days** per calendar year.
2. OCI Card (Overseas Citizenship) Lifelong

For U.S. citizens of Indian origin, the **OCI Card** is the best long-term solution.

  • Eligibility: Available for those who were Indian citizens on/after Jan 26, 1950, or their descendants.
  • Benefits: Lifelong multiple-entry visa and exemption from reporting to police (FRRO) for any length of stay.
  • VFS Global: OCI applications in the U.S. are processed through VFS Global. You must select the jurisdiction based on your U.S. address.
3. Digital Arrival Card (2026 Update) Mandatory

From late 2025, India has introduced a mandatory digital arrival card for all foreign travelers.
