1. e-Visa (Tourism & Business) Online Only
Singaporean citizens must apply for their e-Visa online via the official Indian Government portal at least 4 days before travel.
- No VFS for e-Visa: The process is entirely digital. You do not need to visit a VFS center if you are applying for an e-Visa.
- Continuous Stay: For Singaporeans, the continuous stay during each visit on 1-year/5-year tourist e-Visas must not exceed **90 days**.
- Validity: Validity starts from the date of grant of ETA, not the date of arrival in India.
- Boarding Rule: Singapore has a "No-Boarding Directive" for passengers without a verified visa or OCI card.
2. OCI Card (Overseas Citizen) Lifelong Access
The OCI card provides lifelong visa-free entry and is processed through VFS Global in Singapore.
- VFS Appointment: Unlike e-Visas, OCI applications require an in-person appointment at VFS Global (Robinson Road).
- Attestation: Birth or marriage certificates issued in Singapore must be attested by the Singapore Academy of Law before submission.
- Online Updates: From 2026, updating a new passport or photo on your OCI is done for free via the **OCI Miscellaneous Services** portal.
3. New 2026 Customs Regime Digital Only
India has implemented the **Baggage Rules 2026**, replacing old paper forms with a single digital declaration.
- Higher Allowance: The general duty-free allowance has increased from ₹50,000 to **₹75,000** for OCI holders and non-tourist visa holders.
- Tourist Exemption: Foreign tourists (Singaporeans) enjoy a higher duty-free exemption of **₹25,000**.
- Air Suvidha Integration: Customs declarations are now integrated into the **Air Suvidha** digital platform—no more paper forms on the plane.
- Jewellery Limits: Duty-free gold is now based on weight: 40g for women resident abroad (>1 year) and 20g for all others.
4. Tech & Currency Regulations Strict
Indian customs enforce strict penalties for undeclared currency and prohibited electronics.
- Satellite Phones: Carrying satellite phones (e.g., Thuraya, Iridium) into India is strictly illegal and may lead to detention.
- Currency: You must declare cash exceeding **$5,000 USD** (approx S$6,700) or total monetary instruments exceeding **$10,000 USD**.
- Drones: Import of drones is prohibited without prior approval from the DGCA.
- Yellow Fever: If you've recently visited a yellow fever risk country, you MUST produce a valid vaccination certificate.
