1. Entry Rights & Documents No Visa

As EU citizens, Irish nationals have the fundamental right to travel freely to Poland.

  • No ETIAS: Unlike non-EU citizens, Irish passport holders are exempt from the ETIAS system launching in 2026.
  • ID Requirement: You can enter Poland using either a valid **Irish Passport** or a **valid Passport Card**. Driving licenses are NOT accepted for international travel.
  • Temporary Checks: Poland has extended temporary border monitoring at several internal Schengen borders until **4 April 2026**. Expect spot checks on flights from non-Schengen Ireland.
  • No Entry Stamp: Your Irish passport will not be stamped upon entry into Poland.
2. Rights to Work & Reside No Permit Required

Polish labor markets are fully open to Irish citizens on the same terms as locals.

  • No Work Permit: You do NOT need a work permit to take up a job in Poland.
  • Stay Beyond 90 Days: If you plan to stay longer than 3 months, you must register your stay at the local **Voivodeship Office** (*Urząd Wojewódzki*).
  • EU Registration Card: This registration is free and results in a plastic card confirming your right to reside indefinitely.
3. New 2026 Registration Rules Personal Appearance

Effective 1 January 2026, Poland has tightened administrative procedures for all foreigners, including EU citizens.

  • PESEL Mandate: To get your **PESEL number** (essential for taxes, banking, and health), you must now appear **in person** at the local City Hall (*Urząd Miasta*). Proxy applications are no longer allowed.
  • Address Registration: Temporary address registration (*zameldowanie*) remains mandatory for all residents.
  • Child Benefits: To claim the full state-funded child benefit in 2026, foreign parents must be registered as employed or self-employed with **ZUS**.
4. Border Security & Local Laws EU Standard

While immigration is free, local laws regarding public behavior and currency are strict.

  • Public Consumption: Consuming alcohol in public places (streets, parks) is strictly prohibited and carries on-the-spot fines.
  • Zero Tolerance: Poland has a near-zero tolerance policy for drink-driving (0.2mg limit, lower than Ireland’s 0.5mg).
  • Currency: The currency is the **Złoty (PLN)**. Declare any cash exceeding **€10,000** upon entry or exit.
  • Transport: Always validate your bus/tram ticket in the small yellow machines immediately upon boarding to avoid heavy fines.
