Malaysia Entry Hub 2026

Australian citizens enjoy one of the most streamlined entry processes for Malaysia.

• No Visa Required: You do NOT need a visa for tourism or social visits of up to **90 days** (approx. 3 months).
• Passport Validity: Your Australian passport must be valid for at least **6 months** from the date of entry.
• Onward Travel: You must have proof of a return or onward ticket.
• Funds: While rarely checked, you may be asked to show sufficient funds for your stay.

Effective since 2024 and mandatory in 2026, the **MDAC** is required even for visa-free travelers.

• The 3-Day Rule: You MUST submit your MDAC online within **3 days** prior to arrival.
• Official Portal: Submission is free via the official Malaysian Immigration website.
• Confirmation: Keep a digital or printed copy of the confirmation email to show at boarding or immigration.

Australia is one of the few countries eligible to use the automated immigration gates at KLIA 1 & 2.

• First-Time Users: On your first entry, you must still visit a **manual counter** to enroll your biometrics (fingerprints).
• Subsequent Entries: After enrollment, you can use the **Autogates** for both arrival and departure, clearing immigration in seconds.
• Requirement: You must have a biometric **e-Passport** and have submitted your MDAC correctly.

Malaysia enforces strict transparency regarding currency and specific consumables.

• Tobacco: Allowance is limited to **200 cigarettes** (or 225g of tobacco). Vapes/e-cigarettes are strictly regulated and may be confiscated.
• Alcohol: Duty-free limit is **1 litre** of spirits, wine, or malt liquor.
• Currency: You must declare any cash or monetary instruments exceeding **USD 2,500** (equivalent) when entering or **RM 10,000** when leaving.
• Medication: Carry a prescription for personal medications. Strong painkillers or controlled substances should be declared.
