1. e-Visa & Entry Requirements Apply Online
Irish citizens must apply via the official Indian e-Visa portal at least 4 days before travel.
- No VFS Visit: The e-Visa process is entirely digital. You do not need to submit your physical passport to the embassy in Dublin.
- Passport: Must be an ordinary passport valid for at least **6 months** from arrival. Temporary or diplomatic passports are not eligible for e-Visa.
- Processing Time: Approvals now typically take **8-10 days** due to enhanced verification. Submit at least 2 weeks in advance.
- Stay Rule: For Irish tourists, the maximum continuous stay is **90 days** per visit, with a total cap of 180 days in a calendar year.
2. Baggage Rules 2026 (New Limits) Mandatory
Effective February 2, 2026, India has significantly increased duty-free allowances for travelers.
- Foreign Tourist Limit: As a foreign citizen, your duty-free allowance for articles in your baggage has increased to **₹25,000** (approx. €280).
- Tobacco & Alcohol: Allowance remains at **2 litres of alcohol** and **100 cigarettes** (down from 200 in previous years).
- Laptop Policy: Under the new 2026 rules, you are allowed to carry **one laptop** computer duty-free as part of your personal effects.

3. Health Declarations (Air Suvidha) Lifted

- Air Suvidha: The requirement to fill out the Air Suvidha health declaration form remains **waived off** in 2026.
- Vaccination: COVID-19 vaccination is recommended but NOT mandatory for entry.

4. Border Security & Customs Strict
Indian customs strictly monitor prohibited technology and high-value items.
- Satellite Phones: Carrying Thuraya, Iridium, or other satellite phones is strictly illegal and may lead to detention.
- Drones: Importing drones is generally prohibited for foreign tourists without DGCA permission. Unregistered drones will be confiscated at the airport.
- E-Cigarettes: The import and possession of e-cigarettes (vapes) is strictly banned in India and will be confiscated by customs.
