As of February 2026, Dubai (DXB) has deployed 122 next-generation contactless Smart Gates.

• Who Can Use: Malaysian citizens with biometric passports who have visited DXB recently.
• Contactless: Use facial and iris recognition to clear immigration in under **5 seconds**—no document scan needed once registered.
• Registration: If it's your first visit in 2026, you will be automatically registered at the manual counter for future use of the gates.
• Families: Note that guests under **15 years old** or under 1.2 meters in height should still use manual counters.

The "Schengen-style" visa for the Gulf states has entered its 2026 pilot phase.

• The Concept: A single digital permit allowing travel across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman.
• Stay: Allows a **30-day stay** across the bloc with a soft-launch fee estimated between **USD 100-150**.
• Status: Pilot tests are currently running for specific traveler groups; Malaysians should still use their standard visa-on-arrival status until the full 2027 rollout.

UAE Customs has shifted to a mobile-first self-declaration system for 2026.

• iDeclare App: It is highly recommended to use the **iDeclare** mobile app to self-declare commercial goods or cash before landing.
• Currency Limit: You must declare cash, traveler’s cheques, or precious metals exceeding **AED 60,000** (approx. RM 78,000).
• Tobacco: Allowance is strictly **400 cigarettes**; importing electronic cigarettes or vapes must also be declared.
• Banned Items: Black magic items, gambling tools, and publications contradicting Islamic values are strictly prohibited.
