British citizens are unique as they can stay for up to 6 months without a traditional visitor visa.

• NZeTA Rule: You must apply for a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before you travel. It is valid for 2 years.
• IVL Fee (2026): Along with NZeTA, you must pay the **International Visitor Levy (IVL)**, which has increased to **NZD 100**.
• Total Cost: NZD 117 if applied via the official app, or NZD 123 via the website.
• Onward Ticket: You must show evidence of a return or onward ticket to a country you have the right to enter.

The UK-NZ arrangement allows young Brits to live and work in NZ for an extended period.

• Age & Duration: Available for British citizens aged 18-35. You can stay for up to **36 months**.
• Work Rights: You can take on temporary employment throughout your stay and study for up to 6 months.
• Financial Proof: You must show at least **NZD 350 per month** of stay for your living expenses.

Effective from August 2026, New Zealand is introducing two new residence pathways under the SMC.

• Skilled Work Experience Pathway: For ANZSCO Level 1-3 roles with 5 years of relevant experience (including 2 years in NZ at 1.1x median wage).
• Trades & Technician Pathway: For those with Level 4+ qualifications and 4 years of post-qualification experience.
• Salary Rule: Most sponsored roles must pay at least the median wage, currently **NZD 33.56 per hour**.

New Zealand enforces strict biosecurity to protect its island ecosystem.

• NZ Traveller Declaration (NZTD): You must complete this online or via the app within 24 hours before your flight to NZ.
• Biosecurity: All food, plants, and animal products must be declared. Failure to declare can result in an instant **NZD 400 fine**.
• SmartGates: British passport holders can use automated eGates at all major NZ airports for faster immigration.
