1. Tourism & Short Stays Visa-Free
U.S. citizens can enter Ireland without a visa for tourism or business for up to 90 days.
- Border Control: While no visa is needed, you must satisfy the Immigration Officer at the port of entry. Carry proof of your return flight and sufficient funds.
- Passport Validity: Your U.S. passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay.
- No Schengen Link: Ireland is NOT in the Schengen Area. Time spent in Ireland does not count toward your 90-day limit in France, Germany, etc..
2. Study in Ireland (Long-Term) No Visa
U.S. citizens do not need to apply for a student visa before traveling, but they must register after arrival.
- Letter of Acceptance: Must be for a full-time course (minimum 15 hours/week) at a recognized institution.
- Financial Requirement: For 2026, you must show access to at least **€10,000** for each year of study.
- IRP Registration: Within 90 days of arrival, you must book an appointment to get your **Irish Residence Permit (IRP)** card. The fee is **€300**.
- Health Insurance: Private medical insurance is mandatory for the duration of your stay.
